NRCS welocmes Mollie Stevens
The United States Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) welcomes Mollie Stevens to the Kingsville NRCS office. Mollie is currently a junior attending Texas A&M-Kingsville majoring in Plant & Soil Science. Mollie is also a work study student and has served on several local student committees of Frank H. Dotterweich college of Engineering, Texas A&M-Kingville.
Mollie has expressed an interest in her career path with the agency on helping landowners and producers conserve and protect their natural resources so they'll be there in the future to use.
Growing up in a small rural community in South Texas and coming from a strong agricultural background has contributed to her career path. Organizations like FFA, 4-H, and FCCLA in high school years have also contributed to her a career in conservation.
The knowledge gained from these clubs, whether it was in plant identification contests, community service, or public speaking have all contributed to molding a well rounded person. Burning pear for cattle or building fence on a hot South Texas day has not changed her mind in pursing an agricultural career.
Growing up, my grandfather was my mentor and he was very strong believer in conservation, not only in the county but state and nationwide too. You might say that my sister and I took a page out of his playbook and followed in his footsteps in pursuing a career path in conservation.
This is going on Mollie's fourth summer doing an internship program with the USDA-NRCS agency where she was stationed out of the Pleasanton and Floresville Field Offices. Mollie is the daughter of Walter & Shirley Stevens of Christine.
"We welcome Mollie and look forward to providing her additional training in Kleberg and Kenedy counties in her internship program," says John Prukop, Chairman of the Kleberg-Kenedy Soil and Water Conseravation District headquartered in Kingsville.
"We hope she can gain some experience on conservation matters in this part of South Texas and know she will be a valuable asset with her past experiences in the other offices in helping to provide the NRCS office with conservation assistance to the farmers, ranchers, and other producers in the work area."
